Advanced Wing Systems
36th America's Cup Mule

Advanced Wing Systems was commissioned to develop a sail based on their Semi-Rigid Wing for the 36th America's Cup. The half-scale test platform, the AM38 is referred to as the Mule.

AWS has always used the natural flexibility of the battons to achieve the airfoil shapes of their wing. Experimentation was their key, but time consuming.

Marquis Engineering developed a prediction calculation for the flexible battons, for constant and variable cross-sectional battons. It is, of course, also scalable for use on the Mule as well as the final racing boat..., the New York Yacht Club American Magic.
